The British Shooting Show always brings a wave of new releases, but every now and then something lands that feels less like a gamble and more like a statement. The BSA Airsport-SL is exactly that. It blends BSA’s heritage accuracy with modern PCP thinking, all wrapped up in a practical, all-weather package.
Following its launch buzz and early interest, we’ve spent some time looking at what the Airsport-SL actually brings to the table.
First Impressions
At a glance, the Airsport-SL has a tactical edge. It is finished in black throughout, giving it a purposeful, modern look, but it retains traditional rifle proportions. It does not feel extreme or overly futuristic. Instead, it sits comfortably between classic sporter and contemporary PCP.
The quoted dimensions put it at:
- 860mm overall length without silencer
- 1045mm with the supplied BSA slim moderator fitted
- 3.2kg unscoped
So, it is not ultralight. There is enough weight here to give it stability without feeling cumbersome in the field.
Under The Hood
Up front sits BSA’s 15-inch cold hammer forged barrel, free-floating and threaded ½” UNF, supplied as standard with BSA’s slim silencer. If you have shot BSA barrels before, you will already know what that usually means. Consistency and precision.
Beneath the barrel is a 300cc carbon fibre bottle, now running at a 250 bar fill pressure. Early pre-production rifles were marked 232 bar, but full production models are 250 bar. That increased fill pressure contributes to impressive shot counts:
- Around 260 shots in .177
- Around 310 shots in .22 and .25 in sub-12 ft lb
That puts it firmly in the high shot count bracket, ideal for longer range sessions or extended pest control outings.
The rifle is regulated, helping deliver consistent velocity across the charge. That is something serious shooters now rightly expect as standard.
Controls & Practical Features
The Airsport-SL is built around a sidelever action, and it is properly smooth. Positive, light, and confidence inspiring, very much in line with what we have come to expect from BSA’s newer platforms.
It uses the tried and tested BSA 10-shot magazine in .177 and .22, and an 8-shot version in .25. This is the same reliable design found in previous BSA models like the R10. It may not be the highest capacity system out there, but it is proven, dependable, and sensibly priced for spares.
Up top is a 180mm Picatinny rail, making scope mounting straightforward and flexible. No more worrying about dovetail compatibility. Just fit your chosen mounts and go.
Below the action, the rifle features a direct Foster fill connection and a recessed pressure gauge. The gauge is on the smaller side, but clear enough in use. Direct fill without a probe is always welcome. Fewer parts to lose and fewer complications.
An optional accessory rail system can be fitted underneath, adding a Picatinny section for bipods or other accessories. It integrates neatly with the forend and keeps the rifle looking purposeful.
Performance On The Range
Out at 40 metres, the Airsport-SL demonstrates exactly what you would hope for from a BSA. Tight, consistent grouping with minimal fuss. It is one of those rifles that feels immediately familiar. Sit behind it and it simply works.
It is not overly loud with the supplied slim moderator, though those wanting even quieter performance may experiment with alternatives. As supplied, it is more than acceptable for field use.
Where It Sits In The Market
With an expected UK retail price of £899.95, plus £129.95 for the optional rail system, the Airsport-SL positions itself as one of the more affordable regulated sidelever BSAs currently available.
Considering you are getting:
- A carbon bottle
- A regulator
- A sidelever action
- Cold hammer forged barrel
- Picatinny rail as standard
It is competitively placed.
So, What Is The Airsport-SL?
In many ways, it feels like BSA have taken the best elements of their previous platforms. The proven magazine system, the barrel heritage, the smooth sidelever, and brought them together in a modern, practical configuration.
It is not trying to reinvent the PCP. Instead, it refines what BSA already do well.
Comfortable. Consistent. Reliable. Familiar in the best possible way.
Final Thoughts
The BSA Airsport-SL is exactly what many shooters want from a new release. Modern features without abandoning traditional shooting feel.
It offers serious shot count, solid regulation, practical durability, and that unmistakable BSA accuracy. Whether you are heading out for pest control, range sessions, or simply want a dependable PCP with modern touches, the Airsport-SL deserves a close look.
Sometimes evolution beats revolution, and this feels like one of those times.
